Update from an even shorter week - April 26, 2019

Another short week full of excitement...

Here's a short update from this week.

Math:
- This week we continued working on fractions and understanding how to represent a fraction of a whole.  Next week we will start comparing fractions and even manipulating them.
- This week I gave out 9 certificates in Mathletics.  Lots of great work accomplished by the class.
- We also continued to practice our multiplications through quizzes, "around the world" games and even by showing our Grade 1 buddies how we practice our multiplications using a deck of cards.  With our grade 1 buddies we focused on addition at first, but then many were ready for trying out some multiplications too.
English:
- In English, we continued working on our Autobiographies and many more are now ready for proofing.
French:
- We continued reading "Les bas du pensionnat".  We finished the first chapter and next week we will start analyzing and understanding the book through guiding questions.
Coding:
- This week we continued on our coding and we also succeeded at coding a few small games using Scratch instruction cards.

These short three days we also had 3 gym classes, hymn sing and we worked with our grade 1 buddies.   Most exciting of all though was a show by a high school band performing this morning.  Here are some pictures.  The band was made up of 60 members.  It was absolutely amazing as many of the students attested to it afterwards. The band boasted instruments of all kinds (clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, violin, piano, drums, etc...) and performed 9 songs for us.  After the show the performers took some time to introduce to the our students their instruments.  For many, including myself, this was an incredible experience.

Spring Variety / Talent Show

Here is a photo our Grade 4 incredible Talent Show performers.  This was rare and unique demonstration of the many talented students we have the pleasure to teach every day.  I recorded most of the performances rather than take photos so I don't really have many more.  Hope everyone else does :).  I was truly proud of the talent in our class and am extremely grateful for having such a wonderful parent council for organizing this event.

Chess Club

We continue to run the chess club every Wednesday and Friday and I will be sending out more information about the tournament soon.  Everyone is welcome to come and play. :)
