OUR TIME IS UP! IT WAS FUN!

And today was our last day.  I cannot believe how fast the year went.  I had loads of fun, and I can only hope my students also did. I loved every minute and I will miss everyone.  I hope everyone has a lovely summer break! 
Keep reading, keep drawing, keep learning and don't forget that "Math is really AWESOME!"  💗

Last week of school! - June 24, 2019

And, believe it or not, it is the last week of school.  We did many things in the past few weeks and tried to finish off as many projects and assignments as we could.  We have a few more things left to do and then it's time to enjoy the well-deserved break. 


What's happening this week?

Monday:
We have one more Mathletics Math test (Part 2) that we will do.  Students did well on Part 1.  This is the first of this format that they are writing, so considering, they did real well.  Let's see how we do on Part 2.  We finished everything in Math, so after this we'll just practice our multiplication facts for the rest of the week. :)

Tuesday:
Our aim for this day is to finish the book "A Wrinkle in Time" so we can watch the movie.  We will also try to finish our Autobiographies.  There might be some finishing touches left on the actual books (online), so students will be able to perfect their work over the summer.

Wednesday:
Movie: A Wrinkle in Time and Year-end Mass at 1:30 PM at St. Gerard Church.  Come join us for this last mass of the year.

Thursday:
Fun Day!  Students can come in their Pyjamas if they want to :).  Please send a plastic bag so students can collect their things and bring them home.

Mini Gala Oratoire

Thank you to all those who attended our Mini Gala Oratoire on the 12th of June.  The students did a great job.  Thank you also for the special treats that some parents brought and some sent for this special occasion.  Here are some photos:

Chess Tournament

The chess tournament came to an end on the 20th of June.  Our Winners were the following for each game: Grade 4: Kaitlyn, Grade 5: Tristan, Grade 6: Silken.  Bravo!  Thank you to all the players who participated.  It was fun and tense at times.  The competition was fierce :).  I was glad to see that so many students were interested in playing.  BRAVO!  Keep playing over the summer.

National Indigenous People's Day & Play Day

Last Friday (June 21st), we had a Play Day (morning) with all sorts of fun activities spread out all over the school.  Grade 5s and 6s did a great job of running the various stations.  The grade 4s were called upon to help them out (relieve them) and they also did a fabulous job even though they had no idea they were going to be asked to do this.  I'M PROUD! 
We wrapped up the day with making Talking Sticks and a wonderful Smudge Ceremony run by Mme Renee.  It was a beautiful wrap-up to a busy day.  Thank you Mme Renee.

Although the chess tournament is over, the students have not stopped playing.  This is how indoor recess was spent before lunch as it was raining. :)

3 weeks to go - June 9, 2019

Well, it's official; illness does not discriminate and certainly has terrible timing.  Nonetheless, we are getting close to wrapping up the year.

We have started working on multiplication of large numbers in math, we are getting ready for our Gala Oratoire on Wednesday, have written some beautiful Calligrammes and are continuing to read "Les bas du pensionnat" in French.  In English we are reading "A Wrinkle in time" and are continuing with Planet Protector Academy.

We have also been very busy with DanceKreations last week.  I, unfortunately, missed the final performance as I was sick, but I hope you all got to see it and loved it.  From the rehearsals I already knew that it would be a great performance.

We also took some time to write some notes of Thank you for our amazing volunteers, and decorate some table covers for the Volunteer tea.

We continue to explore topics in Science (light, plants, etc.) while we also will start working on our Kids in the know topics as well as our topics on Human Sexuality.   

Finally, the Chess Tournament will start as of Monday (the 10th) until the 20th.  Last week we started an elimination round but I have redesigned our Grade 4 tournament to allow everyone at least 2 chances at a game.  We have too many students for a true round-robin, so I will have more details for the students on how things will run on Monday.  We will try to have a fair competition and give everyone the opportunity to shine.  :)

- No more spelling tests to study for. There may be simple dictees to practice writing.

- Raz-Kids Books - no more new Raz-kids books will be assigned.  Many have not completed their prior assignments, so please help your children finish these before the end of the year.

5 weeks of school left - May 27, 2019

Another quick update.  With less than 5 weeks to go, we are trying to close the loops on many things that we have been learning.

In math we wrapped up decimals today.  We will be moving onto Data Analysis, multiplication with larger numbers, division and we will close the year with shapes.  Loads more to go, but we can do it.

In French we completed most of our book reviews, and are now working on our poems for our Mini Gala Oratoire which we are currently planning to host on the 12th of June.  Parents will be invited to this event.  This is only for our class, so invitations will be sent out shortly.  We also continue working on "Les bas du pensionnat". 

Congratulations to Isla for a beautiful performance on Saturday at the Gala Oratoire!

In science we are observing our tomato plants as we learn about plant growth and what they need, and we will be planting sunflower seeds soon too.  We also started building our little solar-powered vehicles as we talk about light and shadow as well. 

The majority of last week was really spent on preparing for Coding Quest and it turned out to be a great success.  Here are some photos.  It was a very busy time, so it was challenging taking photos but I tried to capture a few of the fun moments.
