Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! - Dec. 21, 2018

And we made it :).

The past two days we created beautiful Christmas decorations, worked on our Number Sense, listened to beautiful Christmas songs, finished our Reindeer letters, finished Le Petit Prince, had lots of exercise, watched the movie of Le Petit Prince and even boarded the Polar Express.  I think I'm forgetting something but with such busy and fun days it is easy to forget :).

Here are some pictures to show some of that.  We also had lots of treats today, so I do apologize if some of the students have way more energy than they should have. :)

Thank you to all the parents and students for the lovely presents I received and for the lovely treats that were sent in.  I always feel so spoiled in this class.

6 more days until Christmas - Dec 19

What a week so far... and what a beautiful concert!

I have to start by mentioning how proud I am of everyone for the beautiful performance at the Christmas concert last night.  We had a full house and the students were amazing!  I hope everyone who saw the concert is as proud of all the students as I am :).  If anyone has any photos or videos they could share with me, I would love to see them. :)
We had a few very busy days in preparation for the concert and today's Liturgy (we helped our Grade 1 buddies prepare.)

On Monday we started with our usual Sharing Circle (a little faster one as we had lots of work to do).  We then worked on finishing our subtractions, in Math, which many of us are now done with.  We will do a refresher in January before we move onto multiplication.  As subtraction proved to be a bit more challenging, we will need to practice this a little bit more at home too, so I will be recommending some practices in January.  We then rehearsed our songs a few more times before recess. After recess we did our French Journal entries on the gifts we would like for Christmas and we wrapped up the morning by working on our Christmas trees for the Christmas Concert.  During the afternoon the students worked on their Google Slides for the Social Studies project and finished off the day by finishing their Christmas trees or reading Raz-Kids if they were already finished.
Tuesday... well, that was a busy day.
We started the morning with a bit of reading and then had our 1st dress rehearsal.  That took us to the first recess.  After recess we went to the Learning Commons, got some new books and when we came back read a little bit of Le Petit Prince.  Only a few more chapters to go with only a few more days left :).  We can do this.  After lunch we practiced the liturgy procession with the grade 1s and did a bit of Raz-Kids as well.  Finally, at 2:00 we had one more dress rehearsal and a quick recess and we wrapped up the day before the concert.  The level of excitement was building throughout the day and was at an all-time high right before the concert. But what a concert!  😃
Our Christmas tree was also finally finished yesterday.  Thank you for all the egg cartons. :)
Today:
Today we started with a bit of typing followed by some additional rehearsals for the Liturgy.  After recess we had Rowan's and Addison's Grandma come in and help us create some beautiful wreaths for the class.  Thank you so much.  After this we worked on finishing our Reindeer letters to Santa.  We still have a bit of work left for tomorrow though.  After lunch, we went to prepare for liturgy with our Grade 1 buddies.  Liturgy started at 1:30PM. It was a beautiful liturgy coordinated by Mme Celine, who did an amazing job.  Thank you!
Following a quick recess, we continued polishing our letter to Santa and another busy day got wrapped up.  TWO MORE TO GO BEFORE THE BREAK!!!

The elf has been busy too all this time... not just us.

Monday:
Our Elfis knows how to write in French.  He is a good little elf.  He does not get much into trouble :).  I like him.
Tuesday:
It looks like Elfis knows music too.  :)  He is teaching all his friends about TA, and TI-TI.  I think we should ask him to teach us too in January.  Although he might be up in the North Pole resting by then.
Today:
It looks like Elfis and his friends were having a discussion.  I wish I was a fly on the wall to know what they talked about.  :)
Upcoming Important Dates:

Friday, December 21
- AWO TAAN Sandwiches
- LAST DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS BREAK

On Friday we will be watching Le Petit Prince in class so pyjamas are welcomed and so is a stuffy friend. :)

Have a lovely evening!

10 more days until Christmas! - Dec. 14

10 more days until Christmas...

We have a nice little Elf but he still seems to get himself into a tiny bit of trouble every day :).

Thursday: Elfis got stuck in our pompom jar.  We all wondered if the Reindeer had anything to do with it, seeing as he was sitting on top of the jar :).  I was not able to give out pompoms all day Thursday.
Friday: Elfis and his pals decided to hide in the teepees created by some students that seem to have been forgotten at school.  I wonder what kind of mischief Elfis will get into over the weekend...

We were quite busy too these past two days...

Thursday morning we started with a Math quiz on subtraction using 3 and 4 digit numbers.  We followed-up the quiz with our BFG groups.  We learned about the Jesse tree and we decorated a Jesse tree in the school with our own ornaments that we coloured during BFG.  The rest of the day flew by with a group research using dictionaries, work on our Social Studies Google Slides and a writing activity around Santa's reindeer Rebellion.  Some of the work still needs to be finished but we'll get there :).

Today we continued our work on subtractions, held our elections for school council, and practiced our Christmas concert songs; all this before the first recess.  After recess we had Hymn sing; a few more students in our class got Certificats Bravos (Xavier, Stephen and Addison.)  Congratulations!

After Hymn Sing, we went to the Grade 1s to work on some artwork to help decorate the gym for the Advent Liturgy.  All the students love to go work with the grade 1s.
After dinner, things did not slow down one bit.   We took some time to go to the gym and rehearse our Christmas concert (i.e. walking onto stage, off, bowing, etc :)).  They may seem like simple things, but can become very challenging when performance jitters set in.  We then continued working a tiny bit more on our Reindeer persuasive writing task.  We will try and wrap this up on Monday so we can close the loop on the Reindeer Rebellion and get the Reindeer back to work :).  We used this news article and this book on Thursday to inspire us for this task.
(Article written by Mme Kiss :))
We finally wrapped up the day with Gym.

A busy week behind us, and a busier one ahead of us... :).

The Christmas Concert:

1) For the concert, please have the children wear black or dark clothing, preferably covering all body parts as the focus should be on the white gloves and the beautiful faces of the children :).  The white gloves will be far more impressive if the background is dark.

2) I am still on the hunt for more white gloves.  Scarlet's mom has been wonderful and found us quite a few, but we would need a few more.  If you see in the Dollar Stores any of these kinds of gloves, I would love it if you could get them all as we still would need 11.  If we don't find enough, we can use other white gloves, however these would be the best as they have the beautiful sparkly snowflake on their backs, which would add another dimension to our hand movements.  I will be hitting a few more stores myself this weekend to see if I can find a few more.
