Chansons

2019:
With summer at our doorsteps, here is a little Summer Medley from Kids United.

Although, Mother’s Day is already a few days behind us, I still wanted to share a truly lovely song that illustrates what an important role mothers play in their children’s lives. “Maman, Le Soleil de ma vie...”. Happy Belated Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms that are the rock behind our little class and that help make things possible for all of us.  Thank you for always being there!!!

With Earth Day happening on Monday April 22nd (Easter Monday), I chose the following song for this week to help us remember what we need to cherish and appreciate not just on Earth Day but every day of the year.  Earth is our home and just like we take care of our houses we call our homes, we need to take care of our planet that is home to all of us.

As Kids United continues to be one of our favourite groups to listen to, I wanted to share this great song that I only just discovered this weekend.  I absolutely love the theme of the song - Sur ma route (on my road or path.)  All our roads are different but they all take us somewhere and we must trust in the direction and enjoy the journey :).

April 1st is called Poisson d’Avril in French. In France, April Fool’s day is celebrated by children sticking paper fish on the backs of as many adults as possible. :).  This tradition dates back to 1564.  Here is a song to help us celebrate this fun and maybe even “scary” day (if you’re an adult).  Don’t forget to check your back often. :)

The month of March is not only the month that will bring us spring, but is also "Le mois de la francophonie."  Let's celebrate and appreciate the fact that we are not just Albertans, but we are Franco-Albertans.  This little Rap de la Francophonie helps us remember that it is cool to be Francophone, no matter where we are in Canada or in the world. 😃

As Ash Wednesday kicks off Lent this Wednesday, I hope we can all marvel at the beautiful things God makes for us and with us.  Lent is a wonderful time to look within and around us to help make beautiful things ourselves too.

Continuing with our exploration and understandings of the First People's of Alberta, we will be learning about a singer and songwriter from Alberta: Carl Quinn"Carl Quinn is a Cree First Nations singer-songwriter from the Saddle Lake First Nation in Alberta. He is also a traditional pow-wow dancer and sings with the Pisimoyapi drum group, since their inception."

As we start learning about the people of Alberta and in particular the First Nations, I thought we could draw inspiration from an amazing artist this week: Buffy Sainte-Marie.  She is a Canadian icon and has been since the 70s.  This is one of her latest songs.

With Valentine's Day around the corner, it is time to feel loved :).

As we will start discussing healthy eating this week, perhaps this song will be a good reminder of what not to do :).

With our trip coming up on Friday to celebrate Carnaval, Bonhomme Bonhomme was the fitting choice of song for this week. Enjoy :)

As we work through adjectives and verbs, this song will help us with spotting some of these in everyday language and even songs.  This song is also a happy one to help us start a new week :).

Our Chanson for next week is a song to inspire all of us to work hard and become "giants" :).  The video was created by a school in Montreal and I thought the entire video is worth watching.
The song is by Pierre-Luc Lessard.  The title:  Soyons Géants!

For those among us who have an Italian heritage, I decided to post the song of La Befana as our first song for 2019.  "La Befana is an old lady who brings toys to children in parts of Italy on Epiphany night (January 5). The Epiphany is when The Three Kings brought gifts to baby Jesus." (Mama Lisa's World)

Here's the song of La Befana (by Gianni Morandi in 1978).

2018:

As we will be singing “a capella” (not accompanied by musical instrument) this Christmas concert, I thought I would share a true A Capella video to get us inspired.

Only discovered this amazing website this morning.  We listened to Dec 12th.  You can listen to all the others at home.

While we were practicing our Christmas Concert Songs, some of the students were wondering if I had added a new song of the week to the Blog.  Initially I was not going to add anymore songs until the Concert was over, but then I heard this beautiful song on the radio and I decided to share it with everyone.  This song is from Ginette Reno and the title is "Ma Liste de Noël".  Enjoy.  (The video is not the best quality but the song makes up for it :)).

Well, it is time for Christmas songs now that Advent has begun.  As we are planning to perform Silent Night and Mon Beau Sapin, I thought it would be fitting to include these first.  Next weeks, I will add more beautiful Christmas music.

Another beautiful song from Kids United about changing the world using our imaginations.  We are using our imaginations every day whether we realize it or not.  What we need to think about more is how we can use our imagination for creating a better world.  (Christmas songs will be posted starting in December :))

A new song from Kids United.  Very fitting for our new generation of caring kids.

This week it's not just one song, but Frère Jacques in 17 languages.  With Kindness being the focus next week, this is a great song to show how we all can get along and how we all are connected around the world without even knowing.  Who would have thought that we had so many versions of such a popular French song.  :)  If you recognize your language, don't forget to share with me on Monday.  I'm sure there are many more languages that have a version of this song as well.  17 are so well captured here.

Remembrance Day is coming fast and we will take some time next week to remember as well.  This song and others we will see in class will help us do just that.
"C'est si peu de temps" by Terry Kelly

With Halloween around the corner... I think this is quite a fun song:
"C'est l'Halloween" by Matt Maxwell.

Another beautiful inspirational song from Kids United: "Tout le bonheur du monde".

We are reading two books about amazing kids in stories, so I thought maybe a song about kids by kids would be most appropriate at this time :).  "L'oiseau et l'enfant" - Kids United

A hint to the book we will start reading in class :) - Le Petit Prince ("Suis-moi" - Camille)

A funny one this week (not French but Thanksgiving related) :) - "The Turkey Song" by Bryant Oden

La persévérance - Terry Fox (Gregg LeRock)

Touche pas à ma planète (Dominique Dimey)

La Ballade des Gens Heureux (Gerard Lenorman)

Chante la ta chanson (Jean Lapointe)
