Here's a quick update of our last two days. I will continue to try and add updates as often as possible, but with Christmas fast approaching, the amount of things to take care of is growing exponentially, and not just for the elves in Santa's workshop :).
So, yesterday, we started the week with our usual sharing circle. We then continuted with working on our subtractions in Math. Thursday the quiz will be covering subtractions as well. We then followed math with music where we continued to practice our songs and our movements for Silent Night. We even tried how we will be positioned and finally we tried the entire song without watching the video. We are certainly getting there.
I am still on the hunt for white gloves. I found some nice ones in the Dollar store which have a sparkly snowflake on them, but I can't seem to find anymore of these. If anyone has any white gloves they can spare for the concert or can find me some of those with the sparkly snowflakes on them, I would truly appreciate that.
After recess we went to the Library, wrote in our French Journals about our favourite gift ever recieved from Santa and we continued reading Le Petit Prince. After lunch, we worked on painting many of the egg cartons so that we can start building our Christmas tree. Many more cartons need to be painted but we will try to finish them all this week. I might do some at home myself :). Finally we wrapped up the day with Raz-Kids to start our new French Assignments. We might not have time to do this another day this week due to our upcoming busy schedule, so we took this opportunity.
Something that was special on Monday too, was that we were finally sent an Elf on the Shelf by Santa. He was reading the Elf on the Shelf book to a few of our other classroom stuffies when we arrived in the morning.
Today, we started with a bit of reading, followed by Math. I showed a video to the students on Subtraction which resulted in a lot of AHA moments, something I love to see every time. :) I am here including a link to the video to help review what we covered today and help practice at home as well. The math series from Math Antics are truly wonderful to help with basic math concepts for all ages.
Before we continued to read Le Petit Prince today, we made some lovely roses from pipe cleaners. Here's a few of these. We "tamed" our roses and they tamed us and therefore they are special to us. :) We also started reading "Le Sapin Mécontent" in small groups. This is a short story about a pine tree that just does not know how to be happy (in the forest or in a home as a Christmas tree.) The students just started reading the story but we have quickly uncovered that some of the vocabulary still needs to be worked on and we will likely do a deeper dive into the story in the next few days.
After Lunch we started working on our Google Slides on the five remaining regions of Alberta. The entire class got divided into groups of 3 or 4 and we started our Google Slides presentations. We will be working on these in the New Year as well to make sure that the presentations are clear, informative and the students are fully prepared to be presenting them to the class in the end. We will learn from each other and together as a group.
Finally, we continued reading Wonder. Almost the entire class wants to read now, so we had to create a list of readers on the board :). Today we had Max and Isla who were our brave readers. They did an excellent job. Can't wait to hear all our readers.
What did the Elf do last night? Well, it looks like he just confirmed for us that he is Masculin :).
Our Christmas tree has grown quite a bit too recently. Over the weekend I reached out to my Hungarian Community friends and they stepped up to my small request with a ton of egg cartons. I am hoping to be able to paint and assemble before the end of this week and perhaps that way we can have it also decorated by Friday. Fingers crossed. :) If you still have any left, don't hesitate to keep sending them in as we could use them.
And... brace for tomorrow :). To say that it will be a busy day is an understatement. The day will start with Typing, then a visit from Mustard Seed, then more singing. We will also do some "story writing in cartoon format" with Mme Adeline in the library, we will have Gym twice and we will try to actually have time to do some work on our Google slides too :). The rest of the weeek will be just as busy too, so looking forward to using all these wonderful opportunities to learn too and not just have fun.
