17 more days until Christmas - Dec. 7

Sometimes we cannot get everything done as planned, but we try and our new word this week for that is "yet".  I don't understand "yet"... I did not finish "yet"... etc.  This word is a great way to help us realize that nothing is impossible and it is only a matter of time. ⌛

Yesterday, in a nutsheel, we continued working on our subtractions, we praciced our songs for the concert, we had Hymn Sing, did a bit of mindfulness with Mme Annie, worked with our Grade 1 buddies, picked new people for our classroom jobs, did French reading within RazKids and finished the day with Gym.

Yesterday morning, as St. Nicholas visits my house the night before December 6th, the students were treated to a small chocolate and pencil that he left in my shoes for them.  🎅
We also talked about a few things including classroom rules and how the excitement of Christmas should not mean that we forget about them.  Sometimes with the excitement of Christmas it can be challenging to stay focused but we are working on it.  Two more weeks to go :).

Today, we started the day with our sharing circle and talked about a few housekeeping items.  We continued the morning with our subtractions which was interrupted with a Practice School Evacuation.  I informed the students in the morning that this practice evacuation would be taking place today and we discussed what we needed to do.  A letter will be sent home around this with more details.  The entire class and really the entire school did an amazing job with this.

In French we did our spelling test, followed by an activity on adjectives.  The students had to find adjectives for a particular word and then use it in a sentence.  Finally they got to share their findings with the entire class.  After this, we continued with the reading of Le Petit Prince.  We are trying to wrap it up before the Christmas break so we can watch it on Dec. 21st.  Hopefully it will be a fun way to wrap up 2018 :).

In the afternoon we finished our notes on the Rocky Mountains and also finished viewing the Google Slides.  Next week we will get to start working on the next regions in small groups.  I have to say that many are looking forward to them.

Finally, we continued reading Wonder today.  Next week we will start work on some persuasive writing in English.  We will also continue working on our grammar skills while always finding time for Wonder.  Many are now practicing their reading skills in front of others and there is no better way to gain confidence than that.  The number of students wanting to read is also increasing each time, something that I am very pleased with.

Our Christmas tree has grown quite a bit today.  We now have enough egg cartons to take 30 minutes on Monday and paint them all.  I will then start gluing the pieces together so we can start seeing our tree grow taller and taller.  STILL NEED LOTS MORE EGG CARTONS THOUGH, SO STARTING CHRISTMAS BAKING EARLY WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT IDEA 😉

MISSION MEXICO:

Thank you to all those who sent in money for Mission Mexico.  We raised $22 as a class.  Not a bad achievement given the little notice that was provided.
