Practice makes permanent - Dec. 5

Practice makes permanent - that is why we must practice our Christmas songs as much as possible!

As I was at a workshop yesterday, a workshop focusing on integrating technology into lesson planning, I did not post an update, however, I heard that the students had a great time with Mme Caroline.

Today we started the day with typing practice.  Many are now reaching a point where they are typing paragraphs and, as we discussed today, these exercises are not only helping with typing skills, but are helping with spelling, reading, writing and even paragraph formats.  All this without us noticing.  That is the best way to learn for sure :).

In Math we continued working on subtractions including estimating, mental calculations and subtracting 3 and 4 digit numbers.  We will be wrapping up subtractions shortly and continuing with multiplication.  We will be reviewing these operations before we embark on harder operations though.

We followed-up math with singing and practicing our Christmas Concert songs.  We have made good progress today but we definitely need to keep practicing.  The videos for the songs can be found on the Chansons page.

After recess, in French, we started talking about adjectives through a scavenger hunt activity.  I printed several adjectives that describe us (our class) but cut them up into three pieces.  Each student got two random pieces to colour and then the hunt was on the find the missing pieces and put together the words.  It was hard at first, but I think most enjoyed the activity.  The reward for the first three words were bonus pompoms.  Perhaps that too helped motivate some :).  The final colourful words will be taped together, laminated and placed on our walls as a reminder of the adjectives that describe our class the best.

In the afternoon we started looking at what a Google Slide presentation looks like by reviewing the information we found on the Rocky Mountains.  We will be wrapping this up tomorrow and will soon start work on the Foothills region.

After the final recess we continued reading Wonder. Today's readers were Sabine, Rowan, and Kaitlyn.  The intonation and the reading skills that the students are able to demonstrate always impresses me.  We have reached a point in the story where the story will now continue from the perspective of Via, Auggie's sister.  The last few chapters from Auggie's perspective were quite sad and so many students felt emapthy towards Auggie.  I was pleased to see that our students have such big and caring hearts.

We also finished our wonderful letters to Santa today.  These letters were started yesterday and today Mme made sure they were all prepared and ready to go so that we would get a response hopefully before Christmas. :)

Our Christmas tree has not grown since Monday.  We will be taking some time this week to paint the cartons we have so far.  Hopefully we will have many more coming in soon as we will need to put the star on top and decorate our tree very soon :).

MISSION MEXICO:

Mission Mexico is an outreach project of Catholics in the Dioecese of Calgary.
Bishop McGrattan has declared the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12) Mission Mexico Day in our diocese. Donations may be made through our schools on December 12 or the parish collections on the weekend of December 8-9. This year, we will also have a Christmas Sweater day on Friday Dec. 7th to remind us to think of others like those Mission Mexico is helping, during this Christmas season.  Please send in a loonie or a toonie for Mission Mexico day on Friday Dec. 7 and have your children wear their favourite Christmas sweater (ugly or not :)).

More information on Mission Mexico can be found at the following address:
