Another busy day... - Sept 26

Another busy day today....

Today we practiced our typing skills in the morning.  Many have now almost completed all the levels so I am setting up a new program that will have many more lessons and levels to work on.  By the end of this year, we will all be better typists.  :)

In math we talked about Fibonacci and Fibonacci's sequence.  We read the book Blockhead by Joseph D'Agnese.  We learned about who Fibonacci was and why he admired numbers so much.  We also discovered how so many of us have seen Roman Numerals before and how Fibonacci was at the forefront of the use of Arabic numerals worldwide.   Most importantly, we learned that by being great observers, we could see all the beautiful ways math and numbers are represented in nature and all around us.

We also learned about the problem that made Fibonacci famous. We thought we could share it with everyone to try :).

There was a man who put two baby rabbits in a field.  It takes rabbits one month to grow up and be ready to have babies.  And it takes them one more month to give birth to a pair of baby rabbits.  Every month a pair of grown-up rabbits give birth to a new pair of baby rabbits.  How many pairs of rabbits will the man have at the end of the year?

Today we also worked on our "masculin et féminin" nouns in French and we will continue to build on these through our dictées and in-class work.  We are also making use of our dictionaries and learning how to search for words in the most efficient ways.

Finally, at the end of the day, we set up and accessed our brand new Raz-Kids accounts.  I sent an email around to everyone regarding these.  Please note that the passwords have been changed and are now unique to each child.  I am also now adding French reading assignments into the program.  These are to be completed by the end of each week (Sunday.)  The assignments (5 books for this week) are in folders with dates on them (i.e. Week of Sept 24-28.)  Please record your child reading these books on your device and send the recordings to me for listening.  These will be my bedtime stories 😉, but will also be used to help assess where each student is at.
