Caring for others - Sept 28

Today was a day when we looked deeper at what it means to care for others than ourselves.  We had Mr. Harries come talk to us about the Terry Fox Run and what it means when families are affected by cancer or any other sickness.  Everyone showed how deeply caring they are and paid great attention to Mr. Harries.  Thank you Mr. Harries for visiting us today in class!

We also showed how we care for others by caring for our worms.  We took some time out of our crazy busy day and fed our little worms today.
If you have spare newspapers (shredded preferable), or composting materials (see picture of what our worms like), please don't hesitate to send them in.  Our worms will thank you 😋

Math:
Here is the great Fibonacci artwork.  :)

Today, we also continued talking about patterns and we started talking about extending these patterns.  We also received our cahiers de mathematiques and we will be using those to continue to practice our topics in mathematics.

Reminder: Math quiz on Thursday (Oct 4) - will be multiplication again!

French:
In French we talked about our nouns in class and created a massive list of masculin et feminin nouns.  We will be choosing from that list for the french dictee (October 12th).
Note: We will have our french dictee on Monday October 1 with the words from last week.  The next one after that will be on October 12 as we have a 4 day long weekend starting October 5th.

English:
We are working on nouns in English as well and we managed to get through almost all of the work.  We will wrap this up shortly so we can get to story writing and reading Wonder in the class.

Social Studies:
We talked a bit about Alberta and read an indigenous story.  We will continue to work on Alberta and we will now be starting a section on the Rocky Mountains.
We will be learning about fossils and other amazing things and we will be creating some artwork as well.  As such, if you have any extra cardboards at home that you don't want, please send them in as we could definitely make good use of them.  Thank you!

Homework:

- Complete all math review sheets - DUE: MONDAY OCT 1
Les mots de la semaine and Words of the week can be found at these links.

Raz-Kids Assignment:
As mentioned in the previous blog and my email, I have set up French reading assignments in Raz-kids.  For this week, I have assigned two(2) books.  The next few weeks this will increase so we can practice our reading skills.  Students can continue to read the English books too and earn stars that way (as many are already doing).  The students should now know which passwords to use.  Please try to record how they are reading through the raz-kids program.  Some of you did, thank you!
The page for Raz-Kids is: www.kidsa-z.com.
The teacher login is: maria0

NEW!!! Challenge of the week:
A soccer ball flew right onto Mme. Kiss' back.  3 suspected culprits were called into the principal's office for investigation.
Shawn: "I did not do it!"
Andy: "Not me! But I saw Shawn kick that shot."
      James: "Andy lied."
One of them told the truth.  Who kicked the soccer ball?

Remember that you have to bring a written solution to the problem to get a sticker!!!!
