Swimming, swimming, in a swimming pool - Nov 5

Today we started our swimming lessons.  The students were excited from the moment they arrived in school until we finally returned back to school.  Because of the swimming, some of the students felt like this was the best school day so far this year.  I, however, will live with the belief that it was such an awesome day because of the Math-a-thon we had this morning 😉.

The Math-a-thon went well, and all the results are in.  I will be sending home the results and the pledge forms for those who collected pledges.  Please send in the money by November 9.

I want to take a moment to congratulate all the students on their results in the Math-a-thon.  The majority of the students did really well if not exceptionally well even though we did not get to study for this Math-a-thon.  The questions were very similar to homework questions and those seen in class, but nonetheless, I am very proud of each and every student for putting their best effort forward first thing Monday morning.  They all deserve a hug for this.

The rest of the morning was a rush from one activity to the other which the students handled with grace and respect.  We had our regular sharing circle, followed by recess, then had a brief visit to the library, followed by some work with Mme Tardif for Remembrance Day and we wrapped up the morning with some reading of illustrated fairy tales.  These we will continue reading in groups.  Once we are comfortable, we will be telling these stories to the class in the upcoming weeks.

The swimming:
Swimming went quite well today and everyone enjoyed being in the water.  Some of the students switched groups depending on their skill levels.  They can tell you all about these.  A special thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped with getting on and off our bus without losing anyone, changing in and out of swuimsuits (this is hard when they are wet :)) and most importantly, making sure we didn't leave anything behind,

Speaking of which, I have found a wet off-white towel left abandoned in the change room.  Apparently it did not belong to anyone, but if you know your child did not bring home their towel, please let me know.  I will be bringing it back to the pool tomorrow.

Looking forward to three more days of swimming :)

Tomorrow we will have our first Big Family Group activity (students get to work with other teachers and many other students from all grade levels.)  The focus tomorrow will be Remembrance Day.  Our song of the week is a beautiful French song reminding us to take the time to remember our veterans.
